Having had an extended summer break, the apple of the public's eye has been late returner to training this year. Kauto Star is due to begin working again soon and it is from these work outs that the man who knows him best, head lad Clifford Baker who is his daily work out rider, will gain the feel he and Paul Nicholls need to assist in making the equine superstars retirement decision with the consultation of his owner Clive Smith.
It was in the aftermath of this years Gold Cup, where Kauto Star was pulled up without completing a circuit, that Clive Smith hinted that his horse was likely to retire. However, a decision was always going to be delayed until after the summer.
